‘The Power’ by Naomi Alderman (Penguin 2016), imagines a world where, after women develop the ability to release electrical charges from their fingers, revolution eventually turns society into a matriarchy. The book begins approximately 5000 years into the future, where we learn that the human evolution has been re-set by an event called the ‘Cataclysm’. A young male writer imagines the history that led to this change of world order.
